STATEMENT TO THE STAKEHOLDERS’ FORUM ON MOTORCYCLE (OKADA) OPERATIONS IN LAGOS STATE.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we have convened this Stakeholders’ Forum for only one purpose, which is the preservation of human lives and safety of property because this is the primary reason why we are in Government.
No matter the season or the occasion, we govern with our integrity and will tell our people the truth and deal with them truthfully whatever it takes.
The truth is that transportation is a critical component of modern civilization and efficient mass transportation is a measure of the standard of living in any economy.
It is also true that as the population of Lagos continues to grow, the demand for efficient mass transportation provides a challenges for us in Government as it provides a market for the services of commercial motorcyclists popularly referred to as Okada.
It is also true that Okada is not our ideal form of transportation and this is what has led us to the development of the Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT) as one reliable alternative that has become very successful, even as we pursue the implementation of Light Rail and ferry services, which are at various stages of implementation and development.
Whilst these models of acceptable public mass transportation are increasing, we have tolerated the operation of Okada within our territory as a demonstration of our sensitivity to the needs of people who demand the service and the survival needs of those who provide the services as a form of livelihood.
Whereas other States have outrightly banned Okada, we do not believe that a ban is the solution.
As a Government of methods and believers in critical planning as to tool for solving problems, we recognize that alternatives and choices of public transportation are the answers and not bans.
We have provided these alternatives through the BRT that now ply our major highways and in the daily increasing number of taxis that we have supported to operate. The BRT routes are daily expanding as the buses are increasing.
Having provided these alternatives, we stand on very high moral and legal grounds to restrict but not to ban Okada from operating on major highways that the existing body of laws precludes them from operating upon.
But beyond the issue of choices and alternatives is the more important issue of safety. Many children have been orphaned; many women have become widows and many men widowers as a result of road traffic accidents arising from the use of Okada.
The number of hitherto able bodied persons who now have special needs because they have become physically challenged as a result of the loss of a limb, an eye or some other body part from Okada accidents is daily increasing.
The economic and social cost on our society is daily increasing and we have reached the point where we must insist that the operation of Okada in our State must be in accordance with the laws of our State.
The security implication especially as it relates to the involvement and use of Okada to commit crime cannot be over emphasized.
We have spent the last few months educating the operators and members of the public about their rights and duties under the law.
Today, we stand to re-affirm our resolve to discharge our primary responsibility to protect lives and property and secure this State compels us to act. I am delighted to say that the Association of Okada Riders through their recognized Unions (MOALS, ANACOWA) and the NURTW and RTEAN are our partners in this regard.

I want to thank the union through its leadership for the understanding and solidarity expressed so far on this initiative. We also want to thank the public who have consistently expressed support and encouragement to this initiative.

How to Get Red or Pink Lips Naturally

The natural pink complexion of lips is sometimes darkened due to excessive smoking or chewing nicotine based products and drinking alcoholic beverages. Overuse of cosmetic products like lipsticks may also cause lips to turn dark. Drinking too much tea and coffee may also make lips turn dark. Prolonged exposure to the harsh rays of the sun may also lead to a similar condition.

Home Remedies to Make Lips Pink

There are several simple home remedies to make lips look pinker. You should make sure to remove dirt particles, oil and dead skin cells that accumulate on the lips throughout the day. You may gently wash your lips with some cold water every night before going to bed for this purpose. You may also wipe your lips very gently with a ball of cotton wool soaked in chilled rose water to make your lips look softer and pinker.

Another remedy is to mix a pinch of turmeric powder with teaspoon of cold milk or milk cream and massage your lips with this paste every day for five minutes. This will make your lips look naturally red and supple. Massaging the lips with some glycerin on a daily basis also helps restore to the lips their original color. One of the most popular solutions for solving the problem of dark lips is to smear them with a little honey every night before going to bed. This nourishes the skin cells of the lips and makes them look brighter naturally.

For another remedy, mix a teaspoon each of almond oil and lemon juice and apply this mixture on the lips every day. Leave it on till it dries and then wash your lips with cold water. You may also add a little powdered sugar on a thin slice of lime and rub your lips with it very gently. This acts as a natural exfoliating and bleaching agent that makes lips look smoother and redder. Overnight application of a little clarified butter on the lips also helps redden their color naturally. You may also soak a few almonds in half a cup of milk overnight, grind them finely to a paste the next morning and apply it on your lips. This helps make lips regain their original color in a few months. A mixture of some gram flour, a spoon each of honey and yoghurt and a few drops of lime juice may also be used regularly on the lips to make them redder.

Black Parents give birth to white baby

When i heard about the white baby by a black parents, Nigerians at that, i was stunned. It reminds me of the South African Movie,Mr Bones. But no white man helped the Nigerian father of the 'miracle baby' cos they look pretty much alike. The baby has got a flat broad nose like a typical black African. How nature played the game still baffle genetic experts.

Anyways heres the original post

THE stunned black dad of a newborn, WHITE, baby girl declared yesterday — “I’m sure she’s my kid … I just don’t know why she’s BLONDE.”

British Nmachi Ihegboro has amazed genetics experts who say the little girl is NOT an albino.

Dad Ben, 44, a customer services adviser, admitted: “We both just sat there after the birth staring at her.”

Mum Angela, 35, of Woolwich, South London, beamed as she said: “She’s beautiful – a miracle baby.”

Ben told yesterday how he was so shocked when Nmachi was born, he even joked: “Is she MINE?”

But as the baby’s older brother and sister – both black – crowded round the “little miracle” at their home in South London, Ben declared: “Of course she’s mine.”

Blue-eyed blonde Nmachi, whose name means “Beauty of God” in the Nigerian couple’s homeland, has baffled genetics experts because neither Ben nor wife Angela have ANY mixed-race family history.

Pale genes skipping generations before cropping up again could have explained the baby’s appearance.

Ben also stressed: “My wife is true to me. Even if she hadn’t been, the baby still wouldn’t look like that.

“We both just sat there after the birth staring at her for ages – not saying anything.”

Doctors at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup – where Angela, from nearby Woolwich, gave birth – have told the parents Nmachi is definitely no albino.

Ben, who came to Britain with his wife five years ago and works for South Eastern Trains, said: “She doesn’t look like an albino child anyway – not like the ones I’ve seen back in Nigeria or in books. She just looks like a healthy white baby.”

He went on: “My mum is a black Nigerian although she has a bit fairer skin than mine.

“But we don’t know of any white ancestry. We wondered if it was a genetic twist.

“But even then, what is with the long curly blonde hair?”

Professor Bryan Sykes, head of Human Genetics at Oxford University and Britain’s leading expert, yesterday called the birth “extraordinary”.

He said: “In mixed race humans, the lighter variant of skin tone may come out in a child – and this can sometimes be startlingly different to the skin of the parents.

“This might be the case where there is a lot of genetic mixing, as in Afro-Caribbean populations. But in Nigeria there is little mixing.”

Prof Sykes said BOTH parents would have needed “some form of white ancestry” for a pale version of their genes to be passed on.

But he added: “The hair is extremely unusual. Even many blonde children don’t have blonde hair like this at birth.”

The expert said some unknown mutation was the most likely explanation.

He admitted: “The rules of genetics are complex and we still don’t understand what happens in many cases.”

The amazing birth comes five years after Kylie Hodgson became mum to twin daughters – one white and the other black – in Nottingham.

Kylie, now 23, and her partner Remi Horder, now 21, are both mixed race.

Even so the odds were estimated at a million to one.

The Sun told in 2002 how a white couple had Asian twins after a sperm mix-up by a fertility clinic.

Yesterday three-day-old Nmachi’s churchgoing mum Angela admitted that she was “speechless” at first seeing her baby girl, who was delivered in a caesarean op.

She said: “I thought, ‘What is this little doll?’

“She’s beautiful and I love her. Her colour doesn’t matter. She’s a miracle baby.

“But still, what on earth happened here?”

Her husband told how their son Chisom, four, was even more confused than them by his new sister.

Ben said: “Our other daughter Dumebi is only two so she’s too young to understand.

“But our boy keeps coming to look at his sister and then sits down looking puzzled.

“We’re a black family. Suddenly he has a white sister.”

Ben continued: “Of course, we are baffled too and want to know what’s happened. But we understand life is very strange.

“All that matters is that she’s healthy and that we love her. She’s a proud British Nigerian.”

Queen Mary’s Hospital said: “Congratulations to Angela and her family on the birth of their daughter.”

Jay-z Feat Mr. Hudson: Forever Young Lyrics

[Mr. Hudson]
Let's dance in style

Let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit
Life is a short trip
The music's for the sad man

[Chorus]
Forever young
I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
forever, and ever? (Uhh)
Forever young (Young)
I wanna be (Aye, may the best of your todays...
Forever young (Be the worst of your tomorrows...
Do you really want to live forever, (But we ain't even thinkin that far...Ya kna what i mean?)
Forever, forever young

[Jay-z]
So we livin life like a video
Where the sun is always out and you never get old
and the champaign is always cold
and the music is always good
and the pretty girls just happen to stop by in the hood
and they hop they pretty ass up on the hood of that pretty ass car
without a wrinkle in today
cuz there's no tomorrow
just a picture perfect day
that last a whole lifetime
and it never ends
cause all we have to do is hit rewind
So let's just stay in the moment smoke some weed drink some wine
Reminisce talk some shit forever young is in your mind
Leave a mark they can't erase, Neither space nor time
So when the director yells cut, I'll be fine
I'm forever young

[Chorus]
Forever young
I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
forever, and ever
Forever young
I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
forever, forever young

[Jay-z]
Fear not where, fear not why, fear not much while we're alive
Life is for living not living uptight
til you're somewhere up in the sky
Fear not die I'll be alive for a million years bye bye's are not for legends i'm forever young my name shall survive
Through the darkest blocks, over kitchen stoves, over Pyrex pots, My name shall be passed down to generations while debatin' up in barber shops
Young slung, hung here, showed that a nigga from here, With a little ambition, just what we can become here.
And as the father pass the story down to his son's ear younger get younger every year (yeah)
So if you love me baby this is how you let me know, Don't ever let me go, thats how you let me know, baby

[Chorus]
Forever young
I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
forever, forever
Forever young
I wanna be
Forever young
Do you really want to live forever,
forever, forever young

[Jay-z sings]
Slammin' Bentley doors,
hoppin' outta Porsche's
Poppin' Up on Forbes' list
Gorgeous (hold up,)
Niggas thought I lost it
They be talking bullshit,
I be talking more shit,
They nauseous, (hold up) I'll be here forever
You know I'm on my four shit
I ain't with foreclosure
I will never forfeit
Less than four bars
Guru bring the chorus in
Did you get the picture yet?
I'm painting you a portrait of Young

[Chorus]
Forever young
I wanna be
Forever young (Forever young)
Do you really want to live forever
forever, forever young

Mandela relative Killed After World Cup Concert

JOHANNESBURG (AP)—It should have been a moment of triumph—Nelson Mandela, basking in the cheers as Africa’s first World Cup opened.

Instead, South Africa’s beloved anti-apartheid icon stayed at home with his family Friday in northern Johannesburg during the opening ceremony and game, mourning his 13-year-old great-granddaughter Zenani, who died in a car crash on the way home from a tournament-eve concert in Soweto.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation said the tragedy “made it inappropriate” for the former president, who is 91, to attend the opening ceremony in Johannesburg.
More World Cup Stories:

“We are sure that South Africans and people all over the world will stand in solidarity with Mr. Mandela and his family in the aftermath of this tragedy,” the foundation said, adding that Mandela “will be there with you in spirit today.”

Johannesburg Metro police spokeswoman Edna Mamonyane said the driver of the car had been arrested and charged with drunk driving. Mamonyane said the driver, whom police didn’t identify, could also face homicide charges.

“The Metro police found that he was drunk,” Mamonyane said. “He lost control of the vehicle and it collided with a barricade.”

Police spokesman Govindsamy Mariemuthoo, who earlier said the driver would appear in court for a preliminary hearing Friday, said that had been postponed for further investigations, and that the driver was not being held. Mariemuthoo said that was not unusual.

“It’s a decision of the prosecutor,” he said.

The Mandela foundation denied reports that the former president’s ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was in the car, but said she was treated in a hospital for shock after being told of the fatal accident. She was discharged after a few hours.

She was on the VIP list for the opening ceremony, and a press box official confirmed she was at Soccer City, but the foundation said later that Madikizela-Mandela did not attend.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, who was in South Africa to lead his country’s delegation to the opening ceremony, were among those who offered condolences.

South African President Jacob Zuma, calling Mandela by his clan name Madiba — a term of affection—referred to the death in the Mandela family in an address to the crowd before the Mexico-South Africa game started.

He said Mandela had wanted to be there, “but unfortunately there was a tragedy in the Mandela family.”

“But he said the game must start. You must enjoy the game,” Zuma added.

Mandela has achieved glory as a politician and human rights campaigner, but suffered many personal tragedies.

In 1969, three years after arriving on Robben Island to serve a life sentence for sabotage, Mandela received a telegram from his younger son, Makgatho, informing him that his eldest son, Madiba Thembekile, died in a car crash.

Prison authorities refused to allow Mandela to attend the funeral.

“I do not have words to express the sorrow, or the loss I felt,” Mandela wrote in his autobiography. “It left a hole in my heart that can never be filled.”

Thirty-six years later, Makgatho died. Mandela announced his last surviving son died of AIDS-related complications, saying the only way to fight the disease’s stigma was to speak openly.

Mandela’s family life suffered during years devoted to politics, as an underground anti-apartheid fighter and in prison. Two marriages fell apart, the second to Winnie. He began his 27-year imprisonment only four years after marrying her.

Mandela was freed in 1990. Four years later, his lifelong battle over apartheid won, he became South Africa’s first black president. He served just one term, then devoted himself to international causes, including fighting AIDS.

He has announced his retirement and desire to devote time to his family several times. Increasingly, those close to him and other South Africans have said the reward for all he has done for his country should now be freedom from the public’s demands.

On his 80th birthday July 18, 1998, he married Graca Machel, a veteran of the anti-colonial struggle in her native Mozambique, former education minister, noted international child rights advocate and widow of Mozambique’s first president, Samora Machel.

Graca Machel once told a television interviewer she helped Mandela reconnect with his family. Family photos released by his foundation Friday showed a relaxed and smiling Mandela with Zenani and other great-grandchildren.

Zenani was one of the anti-apartheid icon’s nine great-grandchildren.
